Privacy

This site is a reference resource. It has no login, no shop, no newsletter and no comments. It collects very little, and this page sets out exactly what.

What this site collects

Aggregate visitor statistics. We use Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic, to count page views and see which pages are read. We use this to decide what to write next. It is reported to us in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we do not attempt to.

Server logs. The site is hosted by Automattic on WordPress.com. Like any web host, it records technical information about requests, including IP address, browser and the page requested, for security and to keep the service running.

Images are served from a content delivery network. We use Automattic’s image CDN, which means your browser requests images from their servers rather than ours.

What this site does not do

• No advertising and no advertising trackers. Nothing on this site appears because someone paid for it to, and we take no referral fees from any platform, contractor or supplier
• No Google Analytics. No Google Analytics property is configured on this site
• No accounts, no newsletter, no comments. Comments are closed across the site
• No contact form. If you want to reach us you email us, and that email is ordinary correspondence
• We do not sell or share data with anyone for marketing

The readiness self-assessment

The readiness self-assessment runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us, not stored on our servers, and not recorded anywhere we can see. Close the tab and they are gone. We designed it that way deliberately, because the honest answers are the useful ones and people do not give honest answers to a form that files them.

Cookies

The site does not set advertising or profiling cookies. Our hosting platform and its statistics feature may set cookies or similar identifiers necessary to deliver the site and to count visits. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies, and the site works without them.

If you email us

We keep your message and our reply so that we have a record of the correspondence, in the same way any business keeps its email. We use it to answer you and, where you have asked about our services, to follow up. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Why we are allowed to do this

For aggregate statistics and for keeping the site secure and working, our lawful basis under the UK GDPR is legitimate interests: understanding which reference material is useful, and protecting the service. For correspondence, our basis is legitimate interests in answering you, or the steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.

Who else is involved

Automattic Inc. hosts the site and provides its statistics and image delivery, acting as our processor. Microsoft provides our email. Both may process data outside the United Kingdom, under the safeguards their own terms provide.

How long we keep things

Aggregate statistics are retained by the platform as part of the service and are not held by us in identifiable form. Correspondence is kept while it is useful to the relationship and then deleted, other than where we need to keep it for a legal or professional reason.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our using it, and ask for it in a portable form. Email info@eb-safe.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.

If we add anything that collects more than this page describes, a form for example, we will update this page before we add it, and change the review date below.
