Reference pages on this site describe the law as it stands. This section covers what is moving: Bills before Parliament, open and closed consultations, regulator statements and government progress reports.
The same standard applies here as everywhere else on the site. Every piece states what stage something has reached, who is behind it, and whether it is law. A great deal of commentary describes proposed duties as though they were in force. We do not.
Current analysis
- The Leaseholder Remediation (Building Safety) Bill. A Private Member’s Bill that would remove the height threshold from the leaseholder protections entirely. What it proposes, what stage it has reached, and why the government’s own promised bill matters more.
What we track
- Bills before Parliament that would change duties under the building safety regime, with their type, sponsor and stage
- Consultations, and whether a government response or an amending instrument has followed
- Building Safety Regulator statements and changes of approach
- Government progress reports against the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations
- Proposed reform outside the Act itself, such as construction product reform
Where something is proposed rather than enacted, we say so in the first paragraph rather than the last. A reader should not have to reach the end of a page to find out that none of it is in force yet.
